Why eliminate the tailbox? Lower weight trumps aerodynamics? Or did the aerodynamics not work out as well as expected?

Good question. Those two efforts are over 5 years apart. If I recall correctly, the tailbox turned out to be a lot heavier than I had hoped. It was my first attempt at building something that big using a sculpted foam plug, fiberglass/epoxy hand lay-up. Today, I might attempt vacuum bagging with a foam core construction? Anyway, neither front nor rear fairing provided any appreciable aerodynamic advantage and both made the bike top heavy. It was rideable but handling suffered. Currently building a 200 watt solar panel on a trailer. It's 4 times bigger than these bike-mounted versions, only 20 inches off the ground and can be attached for long trips only. I'll try to remember to post photos when it's done.
